Robert Kenyatta and the MGII Ambassadors

Below is more interesting information on percussionist Robert Kenyatta who is set to perform at the Lancaster Avenue Jazz Festival on Saturday July 18!

For over fifteen years, Robert Kenyatta has taught African percussion music to students (3 - 10 years of age) at Montessori Genesis II School. Each year, a group of the students, who show exceptional promise, have performed with him around Philadelphia. They are known as the MGII Ambassadors, but have also been dubbed "The Tempo Masters". Venues, where they have performed, have included the African American Museum of Philadelphia, Academy of Natural Sciences, Swarthmore College, EEOC Black History Celebration, World Cultures Day at the Philadelphia Zoo, and Penn's Landing just to name a few.

Montessori Genesis II located at 3529 Haverford Avenue is a private independent school founded by working poor parents in 1976. Located in the Mantua Community of West Philadelphia, the school specializes in early education (Pre-K thru 4th Grade). As a great little urban school, it opens its walls and includes the best of Philadelphia as part of its curriculum and programming.
